PROJECT DENIED.
We love a good outdoor campaign, especially when the team can get really creative with it. Unfortunately, sometimes the concepts don’t make it past the approval stage. That’s ok – we’ll keep ’em coming.
01 – PNW Spore • NOT APPROVED
Just The Spores
Concepted, not approved to run
For PNW Spores, we had been spinning our wheels, working through the various legal loopholes with Google and Meta. So we decided, if they didn’t want our ad money, we’ll try something else. This loose concept was presented to outdoor, but unfortunately, it too was deemed to much of a grey area.
02 – D. Lish’s • APPROVED
Clucking Kidding
Campaign Created, approved, ran for multiple months
There’s a 2-block strip in North Spokane loaded with fast-food chicken restaurants. Jokingly referred to as ‘Chicken Alley’, we planned a beef first billboard campaign for D’Lish’s Burgers to be placed right in the heart of the chicken strip (lol). The first board was a bit racy, but it made the cut, featuring the line “Another Chicken Restaurant… You Gotta Be Clucking Kidding Me!?”
03 – D. Lish’s • NOT APPROVED
Mom's Favorite
Campaign Created, not approved to run
The next iteration in the beef-first campaign didn’t have the same fate. Multiple boards were mocked, and ultimately we turned in the “Mother’s Favorite Meat” copy – only to be denied. We thought it was pretty clearly promoting beef burgers, but I suppose there was a middle-school humor interpretation of it, too. 😉
04 – Local Eye Clinic • Not APPROVED
Yes, Officer
Concepted, not approved
A local eye clinic came to us with a unique selling proposition – they specialized in treating a type of chronic dry eye which could be very niche. The science and technology behind their solution was great, but it didn’t make for a compelling message. We concepted this eye-catching piece to offer less focus on the technical specifics, but to simply get more eyes on their brand. Ultimately, the concept was not approved.
05 – The Woodshop • APPROVED
Never Heard of us
Concepted, Approved
The initial billboard was the basis for a cross-platform campaign. With simple copy suggesting that viewers ‘would see us everywhere’ now – the board was at the center of a Geo-Fenced Digital Campaign. Anyone who saw the billboard would have entered into the Geo-Fence, thus becoming added to the Digital Targeting. From there, a series of Social Media ads followed up on the billboard, being displayed only to those in the targeted area.
06 – The Woodshop • Status Unknown
Not Even a Woodshop
Concepted, ???
For the follow-up on this concept, we brought the creative back to a distinctly billboard specific angle. The new board was designed to look like the previous board had been vandalized. While the copy featured subtle changes, the idea was that the overall impression would leave viewers not to notice the changes. The primary goal was to create a visually catchy scenario that would have viewers stop to take a second look at the ad.
07 – The Woodshop • APPROVED
Brands Get Bigger
Concepted, Approved
This particular board is located just underneath another, larger board that is continually contracted by the Credit Union, STCU. The idea here was to imply their creative was bleeding into ours and featured copy about The Woodshop’s efforts in making brands look bigger. It should be noted that TWS does not actually work with STCU and the copy was written specifically not to imply that. We’ve seen examples of outdoor creative that finds unique ways to play on other brands, but this execution was our own creation.

Ready to push some boundaries,
maybe try something different? We’re game.
