SLICE ‘N SIP – EPISODE 33

It’s easy to get caught up in coffee culture in the PNW. Whether it’s new artisanal spots that make cardamom orange peel espressos or trusted reliable sources like Starbucks, coffee in Washington is a lifestyle.

For me personally, my favorite is a quietly under-rated and under-appreciated staple we all know and love, the diner cup of joe. When it comes to consistency and reliability Hogan’s is my favorite breakfast spot in Spokane, partly because the coffee flows freely and it’s always the same, never too bitter, always hot, and constantly being refilled.

A diner cup of coffee sounds like an easy ask. But how many times have you slinked into a diner the morning (read: early afternoon) after a fun night only to be let down by an acidic or cold cup of brown? How great is it when you’re feeding a bunch of kids after a sleepover and the cup magically refills, did you even see the server? I didn’t think so.

When a diner gets it right it’s a game changer and Hogan’s knows how to keep your cup full and how to get your plate empty. Stop in for a traditionally good cup of coffee, a chicken fried steak, and the old-style diner vibes.
